FRESCO
featuring Sonja Tengblad, soprano, and Bradford Gleim, baritone

Included in the collection of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a mid-16th century Neapolitan fresco depicting singers and instrumentalists crowding through a window. At this time in Naples, the world's first conservatories of music were being founded, sparking the development of opera and propagating formal musical training throughout the western world. AFC’s “Fresco” looks through this prism, at works by revered teachers (Scarlatti and Porpora), precocious pupils (Rossini), and Berio’s Violin Duos, meant to be shared by student and master. AFC will also proudly present the winning entry from its inaugural Young Composers Competition.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Please note this program will be repeated on Sunday April 29 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. For tickets to the Museum performance, please click here.
