They called it the Golden Age for a reason. Experience a whole evening of music written at the heyday of the Hollywood era: sumptuous, deeply felt, and acquainted with darkness, even psychosis. This program explores the post-WWII culture that brought a diverse group of Europe’s most revered musicians to California as immigrants. What kind of music did they write? Film noir; the echoes of which still resound in our movies today. We’ll look at classics like the suite from “Psycho” and the Barber Adagio for Strings in their natural context - and then sweep everyone away with the lavish (and criminally underplayed!) Korngold Serenade.
