Musical Program

Osvaldo Golijov | Last Round
Trevor Weston | Juba for Strings
Dinuk Wijeratne | Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems, arr. Wijeratne
George Enescu | Octet for Strings in C major, Op.7; arr. Popper-Keizer

Featuring student winners from the 2024-2025 NEC/A Far Cry Collaborative Competition

Drawing on styles from across the globe, Last Dance delivers a rhythmic assortment of dance-inspired classical compositions. Feel the groove of Golijov’s Last Round, written as an homage to tango legend Astor Piazzolla; Weston’s Juba for Strings, celebrating the music and dance birthed from the African diaspora; Wijeratne’s contemporary/classical mashup Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems, sampling Schubert’s Death and the Maiden; and Enescu’s lush and exuberant Octet for Strings, completed when he was just 19. You might just dance right out of your seat.

All programs subject to change.
