About the concert:
A big part of being a musician is being able to code switch - between the different styles we play, the various languages used to indicate musical gestures, dynamics, techniques, and in rehearsing with our colleagues. Violinist Alex Fortes takes us on a musical odyssey spanning from pieces arranged from the 12th Century Codex Calixtinus to contemporary violin solos by preeminent African American composer George Walker and American concert-music composer Scott Wheeler. In between Alex will also present pieces by Fritz Kreisler, Gabriela Lena Frank, and J.S. Bach.
