The ability of music to evoke a detailed picture is on full display in this program, which features “portraits” of many things; of a vision of love (Bernstein), of dramatic characters (Mussorgsky), of mythic moments (Respighi), and of relationships (Still). Jessica Meyer contributes to the tradition with a new work inspired by her time spent getting to know the Gardner collection.
