Shostakovich and Mahler

  • NEC's Jordan Hall 30 Gainsborough Street Boston, MA, 02115 United States (map)

Featuring soloists Sonja Tengblad (soprano) and Dashon Burton (baritone)

Soprano Sonja Tengblad and baritone Dashon Burton solo in Shostakovich’s epic Song Cycle-Symphony, one of the greatest works A Far Cry has never played, and one of the composer’s darkest and most penetrating, with all of its poetry tied to the theme of Death. The symphony is framed by Takemitsu’s austere Requiem and Mahler’s iconic Adagietto, a hopeful-yet-vulnerable work, written in the wake of a near-death experience.
