Then and Now at Dumbarton Oaks

  • Dumbarton Oaks 1703 32nd Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20007 United States (map)

Georgetown’s Dumbarton Oaks has been a private estate, a diplomatic meeting place, a research library and collection, and, for three-quarters of a century, a hotspot for contemporary music. The alchemy of combining musical thinkers with world-class collections of Byzantine and pre-Columbian art, exhibition gardens, and academic activity has been producing amazing results from Stravinsky through to the present day. Inspired by Dumbarton Oaks’ legacy, Then and Now explores the early and recent fruits of that alchemy. Following a performance at St. John’s concert in Jamaica Plain, this program will be repeated at Dumbarton Oaks, featuring the world premiere of a new commission by 2021 Dumbarton Oaks Early-Career Musician David Crowell, in honor of the 75th anniversary of concerts at the estate.

Musical Program

Samuel Barber | Capricorn Concerto, Op. 21
