Treasure Hunt

Featuring Visual Arts Curator Zahirah Nur Truth

Live Music Outdoor Event | Saturday, September 12th & Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 3pm

For our season opener, A Far Cry sends audience members on an outdoor “Treasure Hunt” in search of musical “gems.” Audience members will delight in visual art woven in with the music, presented both physically and digitally and curated by artist  Zahirah Nur Truth. You will also be invited to contribute to a community art piece where individuals may respond to the music and their surroundings. The final product will ultimately hang in the storefront window of the A Far Cry space. You might even spy a dancer on site…

Visit the program page to explore and join us at 3pm to watch live!

How It Works: Event Logistics

The “Treasure Hunt” is an unprecedented event format structured to enable safe, joyful live music performance and appreciation. Audience members will be assigned to a designated site located on private properties around Jamaica Plain. Each site will feature small groups of Criers (1-5 members) playing musical sets in a socially distant setting and paired with visual art and other performing artists. Each musical set will rotate between locations so that every audience member will experience every musical set over the arc of the event. The event duration is expected to last no longer than 1.5 hours.

To begin the Treasure Hunt, audience members are asked to arrive early to settle in at their assigned mystery location by the start time at 3pm (location to be revealed 36 hours prior to the event!). Criers at each of the locations will officially start the concert for their respective audience groups by performing short, musical works presented alongside artwork by local visual artists. Those who wish to participate will be given their own individual art “packets” to contribute to the community art piece, and all (both on site and viewing the livestream from home) are invited to explore our special event website to see even more local art online and livestream performances by our out-of-town Criers!
Seating will not be provided and audience members are welcome to bring their own folding chairs and blankets. If you would like to speak to an A Far Cry staff member more about what to expect by participating in this event, please contact us at boxoffice@afarcry.org

How It Works: Ticketing

In-person audience capacity at each site will be limited to 30 people as conditions and government regulations allow. In accordance with City of Boston regulations and to avoid large gatherings, the specific locations of each site on the map will be kept secret to everyone except those who have reserved tickets. Ticket holders will receive an email with the address of their assigned mystery location at least 36 hours in advance of the event.

Tickets are free, although they must be reserved in advance. Specially reserved tickets for VIP Passport Holders as well as tickets for the general public will remain open until audience capacity has been reached at each site for each day. Reserve tickets by clicking on the “Reserve Your Free Ticket” button above or by navigating to the “All Concerts” tab.

Safety Protocols - Know Before You Go!

The health and safety of our patrons, musicians, and staff is our top priority. Face masks and hand sanitizer will be available onsite at all events. A Far Cry reserves the right to ask attendees not complying with health and safety protocols to leave the events. With guidance from clear signage and A Far Cry staff, audience members will be required to follow protocols that keep us all safe. These include:

  • Wearing masks that cover the nose and mouth at all times (no food consumption on premises, please);

  • Social distancing – maintaining at least six feet of distance from other people at all times;

  • Seating will not be provided to audience members, they will be responsible for bringing their own chairs (note that the entire event duration is expected to last no more than 1.5 hours);

  • Leaving pets at home (with the exception of service animals)

  • Be advised: DO NOT ATTEND if you have expressed any COVID-related symptoms or should symptoms develop within two weeks of the concert date;

  • Limited attendance of 30 total audience members per site, not counting performers and staff, not exceeding 50 total people at each performance site on the course.
