Andrew Norman
For the Time Machine in our tale, we selected “Teresa,” which is a piece Andrew Norman wrote in 2010 when living in Rome, Italy. He found all of the old churches in that city so beautiful and interesting, that he decided to write a piece about each of the ones that most captured his imagination. We love the wildness of this piece, the way all three instruments are doing different things at once, almost like they’re talking over each other! We also think it sounds like a ride on a time machine because it begins and ends so quickly. Press the time machine above to hear it!
For the sound of the bird singing and wind whistling outside your window while you sleep, we selected another piece of Andrew’s from the same collection of music. This one, “Clemente,” uses very high tones on the violin and a technique called harmonics on the viola, where the player puts down their finger down on the string much more lightly than usual, and it creates a hollow, whistling sound. Press the bird above to hear it!
We love working with Andrew, because he always has such creative ideas and such a crystal clear idea of what he wants the music to sound like.
