In this passionate program, A Far Cry explores some of the most intimate chambers of the heart. Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony (better known as his Eighth Quartet) guides the listener on a dark journey through oppression, fear, anger, and despair. Turning the coin, John Adams’ “Shaker Loops” explores the prayerful, the physical, and the ecstatic. Between these two works comes a new double concerto by Kip Jones (featuring folk duo K2 - Jones and Crier bassist Karl Doty) that seamlessly blends the gravity of classical music with the relaxed intimacy of the fiddling tradition.
