Phoebe Lin, a native of Taiwan, is currently a second year master student at the New England Conservatory, where she studies with Laurence Lesser. Since starting lessons at the age of 9, Ms. Lin has won several major competitions in Taiwan including: the Award of Excellent performance; first place of Taiwan National string competition; Award of the “3rd Annual Taiwan most potential musician” and was instructed by Yo – Yo Ma in the National Performance Art Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. Ms. Lin came to the United States at the age of 15 and studied with Richard Aaron at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2001 she played Haydn D major concerto with the Suburban Symphony Orchestra in Cleveland. She has also participated in summer festivals such as Encore, Kneisel Hall, and Taos Summer School of Music in New Mexico. In August 2005, a recital was sponsored by the YINQI foundation in Taipei, Taiwan. In February 2006, she had the opportunity of working with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra playing Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1. Shortly after, she was awarded third place in the Hudson Valley String Competition. In the summer of 2008, Ms. Lin participated in the Orchestral Academy of Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival as principal cellist. The orchestra worked under the guidance of Eschenbach, Schiff, Pletnev, Blomstedt, and a chamber orchestra collaboration with violinist Kolja Blacher.
