Middlebury College Concert

We've managed to line up another appearance in Vermont! Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Middlebury College Music Department, we will be able to present our first concert program at the Middlebury College Art Center Concert Hall on Friday September 21 at 8pm. The hall looks absolutely beautiful, and the word on the street is that the acoustic is spectacular as well. Check it out - we're on their calendar!

On the Radio!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to drop a quick note to ask Vermonters to tune in to 101.7 WCVT Classic Vermont on Sunday September 16th 11:00am, when I will chat with Linda Radtke on Vermont Notes about A Far Cry's September 22 concert in Montpelier!

Also, A Far Cry will appear en masse live on Vermont Public Radio on Friday September 21 at 11am, performing selections from and talking with Walter Parker about that September 22 concert.

A Far Cry prepares for retreat in Maine

We are gathering steam for a one week retreat in Maine where we will come together and offer ideas for programs, collaborations, and venues; schedule upcoming seasons; audition different repertoire; refine our rehearsal technique; break into committees to tackle issues such as non-profit incorporation, management offers, museum/art gallery parterships, fundraising, and financial management; and solidify the mission and goals of A Far Cry as we launch our very first full season! We are so excited for this year and the years to come!

Welcome Times Argus readers!

This is the homepage of A Far Cry, which is a conductorless chamber orchestra made up of energetic young musicians from Boston! Please take a look around and make yourselves at home. The web site is in transition at the moment - we're adding sound clips, pictures from our concerts, and reorganizing, but if you poke around you can find the musicians' individual biographies, join our email mailing list, and even find Jason's killer (formerly secret) recipe for bacon-wrapped dates.

Fundraising

It's a bit unfortunate, in a way, that the second post in the history of the blog must have the title it does. Symbolically, the music comes first, as it always does in real life. Following close behind, however, comes concerns about money. A Far Cry exists for a number of reasons. It exists to show the world a new kind of music-making. It exists to demonstrate the power of collaboration and the power of real, profound communication. The musicians of A Far Cry are, for the time being, donating literally thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to help get this thing off the ground. But boy, we could use a little help. There are serious expenses associated with even our modest three-concert inaugural series: music rental, hall rental, and transportation, and we are also facing significant start-up costs in terms of incorporation fees, legal fees, demo recording fees, and dozens of other little things. To get to the point, we aim to perform for all people, no matter their socio-economic situation, but if you have heard us, and if you support the idea behind this endeavor, and you can spare a couple bucks, please give some consideration to becoming a supporter of A Far Cry, and a supporter of the next generation of superb uplifting cultural experience. It's easy - you can donate securely by web by clicking below, or to the right.
