Tucson Airport Hoedown

After a lovely two days in Tucson, a crew of Criers arose early and made our way to the Tucson airport, eager to make our way to Los Angeles for the Grammy nominee reception. Before we even set foot in the airport we received the disheartening news that our flight had been delayed...by over five hours. Ouch.

After hurriedly investigating every possible option to get our merry band to LA on time, we accepted our fate and set about waiting. Wanting to make the most of an unfortunate situation, we did what we do best: we pulled out our instruments and started playing. We figured it would help us pass the time—and hopefully perk up the other weary travelers in similar situations to ours.

We're happy to report that we're on our flight now. We'll have a video of our impromptu concert to post soon, but in-flight wifi being what it is, that will have to wait. In the meantime, here's a link to one of the songs we played in the terminal, from when we performed it in a more traditional concert venue.

UPDATE: Here's the video! You'll notice that we're missing quite a few folks—including the entire cello section—but we dove in anyway. If you want to see a version of the song in the video below with the full band, we've got one of those, too.

Thanks to all of our new friends at the Southwest terminal at the Tucson international airport for sharing in music with us.

With love and music,

The Criers

Schnittke Video

Another new video for your watching and listening pleasure:

Schnittke Concerto Grosso #1, fifth movement Rondo. This video features Nelson Lee & Meg Freivogel from the Jupiter Quartet, Andrus Madsen on harpsichord and prepared piano, and the largest assemblage of Criers the world has ever seen! OK, maybe that's getting carried away, but there are 21 unique parts, with one player to a part. Chamber music in the CMA sense of the word!

Lunatic Video Up!

Biber part 2 on YouTube

The complete Biber is up on YouTube, split into 2 parts (it would have been 20 seconds over the 10-minute limit for a single video... lame, YouTube, lame!). If you haven't seen A Far Cry on video recently, you're in for a treat - Simon Yue is now filming our concerts with multiple cameras, which are then edited together (with the artistic advice of Jae) for a much-improved watching experience. I even find that the video changes how I hear, as my ear tends to amplify whichever section I'm watching at a particular moment. Fun.

Other new A Far Cry videos to check out: the Stravinsky, Mendelssohn, and Mozart Piano Concerto videos. Enjoy!

Humanwine and Steampunks

Maker Profile - Steampunk on MAKE: television from make magazine on Vimeo. Humanwine is an awesome Boston band which A Far Cry has been honored to join in performance. Their sound defies easy description, but "eco-anarchist punk rock" comes sort of close. The video above features a performance (toward the end) of Humanwine with Crier Ashley Vandiver playing backup violin. Our buddy Jeremy Harman plays cello. The segment was on PBS's MakeTV, and is all about Steampunk - the clever construction of devices combining 19th and 21st-century technologies. Completely worth the time to watch!

New Youtube Videos

A Far Cry is invading Youtube, guns blazing. Check it out:

If you happen to have a reasonably fast internet connection, when you open the youtube window, try clicking the "watch in high quality" link just below the video. We're such a good looking orchestra, and we look even better in high resolution!
